For years, my constituents in Orrell have suffered from a lack of local health provision, but next month that will begin to change, thanks to a new partnership that I have built with our local NHS, Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors at a centre for excellence in women’s sport. This will be a shining example of shifting healthcare from hospitals into communities. Can I urge the Prime Minister to continue with our plan for change and to ignore the hon. Member for Clacton (Nigel Farage), who for decades has pushed to dismantle our NHS so that my constituents would have to pay to see their doctor?
Context
The MP noted that his constituents in Orrell have faced a lack of local health provision but highlighted an upcoming partnership with Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors to establish a centre for women's sports excellence.
The Prime Minister (Keir Starmer)
I see the hon. Member for Clacton (Nigel Farage) complaining, but what did he say? His words were,
“we’re going to have to move to an insurance-based system of healthcare”
and:
“If you can afford it, you pay”
—not under our watch. While he is busy taking Liz Truss’s advice and fawning over Putin, we are driving down waiting lists, with 3 million extra appointments delivered and waiting lists slashed in the most deprived areas. That is six times that the waiting lists have come down, including during the winter period. We are rebuilding our NHS, rebuilding our country’s future and delivering for working people.

Last week I held an emergency community meeting for 250 workers in my constituency about to lose their jobs following the closure of the electric fibreglass site in Hindley Green. It was heartbreaking. Some families have three generations of workers who have powered the blast furnace and produced materials for our energy, defence and housing sectors. After working with Government, me, the Mayor of Greater Manchester and the GMB union to prevent this closure, I am bitter about another foreign company closing a blast furnace in our country. What is the Minister doing to get workers like those back into work so they can contribute to a strong industrial future?
Context
An electric fibreglass site in Josh Simons' constituency is closing, resulting in the loss of jobs for around 250 workers. This closure affects multiple generations of workers who have contributed to energy, defence and housing sectors.
The Minister for Employment (Alison McGovern)
Specifically on the business that my hon. Friend mentioned, the Department’s rapid response service has worked with those affected and is keen to do more. I will personally ensure that he is put in touch with my colleagues in the Department so that he can help facilitate that too.

Will the Secretary of State join me and millions across the north in celebrating rugby league as a sport that has always judged people by character, not race or class, and in congratulating Billy Boston on becoming Sir Billy Boston?
Context
Billy Boston, a black rugby player from Wales, was never selected for national teams despite his talent. He found acceptance in the northern sport of rugby league where he excelled. The Wigan Warriors women's team recently won the Challenge Cup.
The Minister for Women and Equalities (Bridget Phillipson)
I join my hon. Friend in celebrating the achievements of Wigan Warriors women’s team, recognising that rugby league has a history of inclusivity and opportunity regardless of race or background.

In the towns I represent, the largest type of private employment is the trades. Bricklayers, plumbers, electricians—these are the people who build our nation’s future and on whom our future security and prosperity depend. They are the working people the Labour party was created to represent. What is the Minister doing to ensure that more young people get into the trades, in particular partnering with local technical colleges like ours in Wigan and Leigh?
Context
The question addresses the issue of supporting young people in finding employment, particularly in trades such as bricklaying, plumbing and electrical work. The MP highlights these sectors' importance to local economies.
The Minister for Employment (Alison McGovern)
I thank my hon. Friend for that question because, as the Prime Minister says, we are the party of the builders. As my hon. Friend says, the Labour party was created to serve the simple principle that working-class people could run the country. The Department for Education is working closely with colleges and with us in the Department for Work and Pensions to create construction foundation apprenticeships from this August, which will give many more young people the tools they need for a career in the trades. That is in addition to DWP support for employers, which we have recently expanded specifically with those trades he mentions in mind.

Welcoming funding was announced for Abram Bryn Gates school in Bamfurlong, in my constituency, in the last free school funding round, but the school has just been told that that funding has been paused, possibly until 2028. It is a really important school, because it provides support for kids to stay in mainstream education even when they have left. When can my constituents expect a decision to be made on the funding for this school?
Context
The MP highlighted that the funding for Abram Bryn Gates school, which provides support for children to stay in mainstream education, has been paused possibly until 2028.
The Secretary of State for Education (Bridget Phillipson)
My hon. Friend is right to raise that issue on behalf of his constituents. I would be more than happy to meet him to discuss it further. We are working rapidly through the whole free schools pipeline to ensure that we are creating places where they are required—that includes specialist provision—and that there is a strong case and good value for the taxpayer.

What steps she is taking to increase the number of children achieving the early learning goals?
Context
The MP questioned the steps being taken to increase children achieving early learning goals.
The Secretary of State for Education (Bridget Phillipson)
Through our plan for change, Labour will get a record share of children school-ready. We will make that a reality through opening new school-based nurseries, rolling out childcare, earlier intervention, speech and language support, help for parents of children with special educational needs and disabilities, and wider SEND reform.

In my constituency of Makerfield, over 500 people will benefit from changes introduced by this Government to the mineworkers' pension scheme. For years, those people and their families watched as Conservative Governments stole their pensions and disrespected their work. I want us to celebrate our industrial past and remember those who made this nation wealthy and powered our industrial revolution. Does the Secretary of State agree that we need to do more to remember the legacy of mining as well as driving up living standards?
Context
The MP noted that more than 500 people in Makerfield stand to benefit from changes introduced by the Government to the mineworkers' pension scheme.
Ed Miliband
My hon. Friend is right. Almost every constituency—

What assessment has been made of the potential impact of changes to the mineworkers' pension scheme on the living standards of recipients?
Context
The MP noted concerns about the potential impact of changes to the mineworkers' pension scheme on living standards, referencing a historical injustice.
Ed Miliband
In the Budget, the Government decided to transfer the mineworkers' pension scheme investment reserve to members of the scheme. At the end of last month, the first increase in payments was made to over 100,000 ex-miners and their families, representing an extra 32% rise in people's pensions each month—an average of £29 per week.

In Makerfield, the council and NHS trust are pioneering a health system focused on prevention through neighbourhood health centres. What is being done to improve access to primary care, especially data-driven preventive care?
Context
The MP highlights a local initiative in Makerfield focused on prevention and delivered through neighbourhood health centres, needing government support.
Wes Streeting
The Government is trialling neighbourhood health centres across the country to bring together a range of services. The Secretary would like to meet to hear more about what works well and needs improvement.

What steps is the Chancellor taking to boost long-term investment, especially in digital and technology? As co-chair of the Labour Growth Group, I welcome the Chancellor's decision to unleash a revolution in investment in Britain. However, the capital we must invest is not just physical but digital.
Context
The MP references the Labour Growth Group's work on digital capital investment, pointing out past cuts by Conservatives in this area.
Rachel Reeves
The Government recognise that attracting private investment into digital and technology is crucial. Since taking office, more than £25 billion has been invested into UK data centres, helping to create thousands of jobs and meet the demand for AI and machine learning.

We know that the barriers to building more houses in towns such as those I represent in Makerfield are often political, not technical. For years, Conservative Members allowed themselves to become mouthpieces for the blockers and the naysayers, which is why, as co-chair of the Labour Growth Group, I welcome the commitment by the Secretary of State to back builders. What steps is her Department taking to increase the supply of housing in towns such as those I represent in Makerfield?
Context
Previous government failed to support house building, leading to current housing shortages.
Angela Rayner
I welcome my hon. Friend to his place, and the reason he is here—he is absolutely correct on this—is that the previous Government did nothing to help house building, and we did not see growth either. This Government will reform our planning system, deliver a new generation of new towns, unblock stalled housing sites and reform the housing market, as well as delivering the biggest increase in social and affordable house building in a generation.

What steps her Department is taking to increase the supply of housing in towns in the Makerfield constituency?
Context
The housing supply is inadequate in Makerfield constituency. The MP seeks details on government actions to increase housing.
Angela Rayner
This Government are committed to delivering 1.5 million quality homes over this Parliament. Under the Tories, house building plummeted as they bowed to pressure from their Back Benchers to scrap local housing targets. We are taking bold action to reform our planning system, deliver a new generation of new towns and unblock stalled housing sites.

Despite significant spending of taxpayer cash, as in so many things, public sector productivity got worse under the last Government. When I worked in artificial intelligence, it was clear that so many of the barriers to harnessing technology are specific, granular and often not glamorous, such as sharing data better across organisations. Has the Minister assessed how digital technologies can be used to increase productivity in the public sector and improve public services?
Context
Despite significant spending on digital technologies, public sector productivity has worsened under the previous government. The barriers to technology adoption in the public sector are often granular issues such as data sharing.
Pat McFadden
I thank my hon. Friend for his question, and let me take this opportunity to thank the right hon. Member for Salisbury (John Glen) for his work on public sector productivity. My hon. Friend is absolutely right that we are only in the foothills of potential here. We have created a strong digital centre of Government with DSIT Secretary at the helm, aiming to ensure good value for money and improve citizens' experience by matching constant innovation seen in private life.

What steps he is taking to increase the use of digital technologies by Government Departments. Despite significant spending of taxpayer cash, public sector productivity got worse under the last Government. When I worked in artificial intelligence, it was clear that so many of the barriers to harnessing technology are specific, granular and often not glamorous, such as sharing data better across organisations. Has the Minister assessed how digital technologies can be used to increase productivity in the public sector and improve public services?
Context
The question addresses the use of digital technologies in government departments, a critical area for efficiency and service delivery.
Pat McFadden
Digital technologies are vital for delivering government missions and improving public services. The Government Digital Service's central digital and data office has been moved to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to drive innovation. We aim to ensure value for money and a better experience for citizens by working closely with the Cabinet Office and Treasury. The Minister recognises that the barriers to technology adoption are often specific and granular, such as improved data sharing across organisations.

Important Context
- - Ministers answer questions rather than asking them, so have different activity patterns
- - Activity quantity doesn't measure quality or effectiveness of representation
- - Some MPs focus more on constituency work than parliamentary questions
- - Newly elected MPs will have less parliamentary history
