Does he agree that we need more council housing built to a high standard, and will he join me in praising Flintshire County Council for its excellent programme of council house building? That would be an example to the rest of the country, but we need more investment in this area overall.

North Wales certainly has a deficit of housing, as do many other areas. In 2021-22 there were three new homes built in England per 1,000 and just 1.7 per 1,000 in Wales.

What discussions has he had with Cabinet colleagues on the impact of rising private rental costs on renters in Wales? In England, there have been commitments to tackle issues like improving standards and banning no-fault evictions. However, rental issues in Wales are a matter for the Welsh Government.

Given the report by Grant Thornton stating that Brexit could cost Flintshire and Wrexham as much as £300 million a year, manufacturing being crucial for north Wales, numerous companies are encountering issues in exporting post-Brexit. Instead of assurances everything will be fine, when will the Government address these difficulties?

What steps is the government taking to reduce the time between a claimant's last Universal Credit payment and first State Pension payment? The announcement in the written statement on Thursday was extremely welcome. What redress will the Government offer those who have already suffered loss?
Context
The Government recently addressed an issue concerning universal credit claimants reaching state pension age.

The change removes any potential gap in provision, with people receiving an additional £350 on average. The process is currently operating on an extra-statutory basis to ensure nobody loses out upon reaching state pension age. Legislation will be amended later this year.

I welcome the Minister to his place. I hope he lasts longer than his predecessors, and that I can meet him more than once about the north Wales growth deal—more than I did any of his predecessors. May I ask him for more money, because the money on offer is not enough? I also ask for a strategic growth deal, not a series of pet projects across north Wales.

We have absolutely no intention of allowing the sort of pet projects to go ahead that we have seen money wasted on in previous years. All growth deal projects will be rigorously scrutinised to ensure value for money, but at the end of the day, if the right hon. Gentleman wants to criticise the Government for putting hundreds of millions of pounds into the north Wales economy, then I plead guilty and I am absolutely delighted to be a part of the Government who are doing it.

Main Concerns
["I am concerned about the current law that allows a convicted murderer to retain parental responsibility. This means Jade Ward's killer, Russell Marsh, retains his rights over her children despite his conviction for murder and history of domestic abuse. The family must seek court orders to restrict these rights, which is expensive, emotionally draining, and forces them to interact with their daughter's killer. Families should not have to prove why parental rights should be revoked; the onus should be on convicted killers to prove they deserve such responsibilities."]

["I ask the Government to consider implementing Jade's law, which would automatically suspend a murderer's parental responsibility during imprisonment and shift the burden of proof onto the killer to regain these rights. This change could save local authorities money by reducing unnecessary legal processes and alleviate the emotional trauma for victims' families."]
