Context

Harry Parker, a 14-year-old boy, was fatally run over by an uninsured and unlicensed driver who fled the scene. The charges were dropped last November due to section 3ZB of the Road Traffic Act.

Question

The person who took Harry Parker's life did not have a driving licence or any insurance, and did not stop, yet last November the charges were dropped due to section 3ZB of the Road Traffic Act. Will my hon. Friend review this section and meet me to see how we can close the loopholes?

Answer from The Solicitor General

Our roads must be safe, and those who break road safety laws must face justice. We are committed to a new road safety strategy which will outline future steps. The Government reviews motoring offences regularly, including unlicensed and uninsured driving. While the CPS prosecutes independently of government policy, I am happy to meet with him to discuss this issue.

Partly answered

Not addressed: Specific review of section 3ZB was not committed to in detail
