Question
Greater Manchester has some of the highest rates of knife violence in the country, with more than 10,000 incidents since 2020. Organisations like the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit are engaging children and young people through community-based projects such as theatre productions. Given the importance of early intervention, does the Minister agree that supporting these initiatives is crucial for tackling knife violence?
Answer from Stephen Morgan
I thank my hon. Friend for raising this important topic and highlighting the good work of the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit. In addition to the RSHE curriculum, the Government will create a new young futures programme that intervenes early to stop young people from becoming involved in crime through preventive action and learning from best practices across the country.
Not addressed: The Minister did not explicitly commit to supporting community-led prevention initiatives like theatre productions specifically mentioned by the questioner.
