Context

The question addresses the challenge faced by special schools in Maria Miller's constituency, which have struggled to achieve good or outstanding ratings despite overall improvement.

Question

Nine out of 10 of the schools in my constituency are good or outstanding. Special schools, however, have struggled to achieve this status. How is my right hon. Friend helping them improve?

Answer from Gillian Keegan

Basingstoke's schools have been transformed from 52% rated good or outstanding under Labour, with two of our strongest specialist multi-academy trusts now responsible for driving improvement in special schools. Solent Academies Trust is now responsible for Dove House School and Chiltern Way Academy Trust will take over three local underperforming special and alternative provision schools, with significant capital investment to support vulnerable children.
