Q1 Partial Answer
Christine Jardine Lib Dem
Edinburgh West
Context
The question stems from the need to address systemic issues in hate crime legislation and ensure protection for all individuals, particularly women. The MP references a dictionary definition of misogyny as 'dislike or contempt for', 'prejudice against' women.
If she will make it her policy to implement the recommendations of the Law Commission's review of hate crime legislation. Every year, tens of thousands of women in this country face emotional and physical violence prompted by prejudice against them. The law does not provide protections for gender-based hate crimes like it does for racially and religiously motivated crimes.
We are waiting for the findings of the Law Commission report. We will work with the Law Commission and publish our strategy on violence against women and girls in the next few weeks. The Government is adamantly committed to dealing with any form of violence, oppression, sexism or hatred against women and girls.
Assessment & feedback
Did not provide a direct commitment to implement specific recommendations for gender-based hate crimes beyond stating it will work with the Law Commission.
