What steps are being taken to improve school facilities?

Answer from Gavin Williamson

We have announced the first 50 schools in the new school rebuilding programme as part of our commitment to rebuild 500 schools over the next decade. We have allocated £9.5 billion since 2015 to maintain and improve school buildings, including an additional £560 million for the last financial year, and we have committed a further £1.8 billion for 2021-22.

Q2 Luke Evans Con Hinckley and Bosworth
Context

A local school in the MP's constituency, Hastings High School in Burbage, applied for urgent capital support funding to repair its perimeter fence but was declined.

Question

I am grateful to the Secretary of State for his answer, especially regarding improvements. Hastings High School in Burbage made an application for urgent capital support funding for its perimeter fence, which it deems a safeguarding issue. Unfortunately, it was declined. What advice would he give to schools applying for that fund, and will he meet me to discuss Hastings High School's issue and whether we can take this forward?

Answer from Gavin Williamson

I am not familiar with the fence in question, but I would be delighted to meet my hon. Friend to discuss it in more detail and work with him and officials to see whether there is anything we can do to ensure that when the school bids for the next round, the bid is in the best possible position to succeed.

Partly answered

Not addressed: Specific advice on how to apply for the fund was not provided; instead, an offer to meet and discuss was given.
