Context
Informed commentators suggest that over 100,000 women have been underpaid their state pension uplift due to an administrative error.
The hon. Member asks about the number of women impacted by this error and requests an investigation into the issue as well as a review of backdating rules to ensure fair treatment in future cases.
Acknowledging the issue from March 2008 where married women receiving low-level state pensions based on their national insurance record should have had their entitlement reviewed when their husband reached state pension age, the Department is looking into this matter. Individuals who feel affected are invited to contact the Pension Service helpline or Pension Wise.
