Question

What steps are being taken by the Government to ensure that all types of farmers, including those in Weardale, benefit equally from environmental enhancement-based support? Lowland farmers specifically worry about missing out on these opportunities.

Answer from Rebecca Pow

All farmers in all areas, regardless of landscape type, will be able to participate in new environmental land management schemes starting from January 2021. Lowland farmers can enter countryside stewardship agreements and transition to the environmental land management scheme at agreed exit points without penalty. Financial assistance is available for eligible activities under this programme.
