Artificial Intelligence has the capacity to transform jobs, businesses and industries, drive productivity and boost long-term economic growth, including delivering a more affordable, reliable and responsive energy system for consumers. AI technologies in the energy sector can make more efficient use of assets, leading to lower costs and improved service quality. This transformation will reduce waste, avoid overbuilding, and lower household bills and emissions. With its strong capabilities, the UK is well positioned to lead in this area, and AI deployment may offer export opportunities to other countries. However, uneven adoption and new risks to the system and consumers could arise without proper guidance. Government should set clear public expectations, facilitate adoption where it delivers value, and constrain it where risks are unacceptable.
