Florence Eshalomi, responding for the government, acknowledged the concerns raised by MPs and pledged to work towards enhancing provisions and choice in the residential market for older people. She highlighted the need for better management practices and transparency in retirement property management. Eshalomi committed to reviewing recommendations from the Lord Best report on managing agents and to introducing a code of practice setting out minimum standards expected of residential property agents. She also committed to consulting on mandatory professional qualifications for managing agents and replacing poor performing managing agents. The Minister emphasised the importance of protecting consumers and residents in the retirement sector, and promised to engage further with Members on these issues.
