Government Response
Commends MPs for supporting hair and beauty businesses across the UK, highlighting regular engagement with the sector through meetings and roundtables. Acknowledges the economic importance of the industry contributing £25 billion to the UK economy and employing over 550,000 people. Emphasises the role of the sector in female entrepreneurship and mental health support. Recognises challenges faced by high street businesses during the pandemic and cost of living crisis. The Government protected small businesses as much as possible in the Budget by increasing the employment allowance and creating a fairer business rates system. They will continue to support law enforcement partners to tackle high street crime, including operations against rogue operators. The small business strategy will focus on boosting support for businesses.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
