Opened the debate
Over the past year, routine journeys have turned into a daily ordeal due to unresolved roadworks. The specific cases highlighted are the closure of the B5470 in Rainow and traffic lights at A523 Mill House bridge in Adlington, causing significant disruption and delays for local residents.

Government Response

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport
Government Response
Acknowledges the significant impact of roadworks on communities in Cheshire and neighbouring areas, stressing the need for coordinated efforts between councils and utility companies to minimise disruption. Urges improved communication with residents. The Government has provided £500 million extra funding for highway maintenance, increasing the total to nearly £1.6 billion this year. This includes Cheshire East receiving an additional £5.54 million in highway maintenance funding on top of nearly £15.485 million in baseline funding. The council will also receive more than £2 million from the integrated transport block and over £7.7 million through the local transport grant. Further actions, such as drainage surveys, ecology surveys, and geotechnical surveys are being undertaken to address road issues. Community engagement is critical for explaining survey work and repair plans to residents.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
