Mr Cooper highlighted the importance of housing-led regeneration in transforming lives and communities, noting that without significant intervention, over 100,000 social homes could be lost over a decade. The Alton estate in Roehampton has been neglected for too long, with a 10-year life expectancy difference compared to other areas of the constituency. A regeneration plan was developed by the current Labour council and received an overwhelming 82% support from residents in a ballot, unlocking £60 million in additional funding from the Mayor of London. The plan aims to demolish substandard houses and build new homes with priority given to Alton residents, along with community facilities such as a library, youth centre, and GP surgeries. Asked whether the shadow Minister was aware that Wandsworth council had cancelled housing developments on estates since becoming Conservative, expressing concern over the future of social housing development on the Alton estate.

Mr. Bacon spoke about the importance of estate regeneration in delivering new homes, particularly in London where demand is high and supply is low. He cited figures showing a decline in home building under the current government compared to the previous one, suggesting that 400,000 fewer homes will be built than promised at the election. Bacon also highlighted the potential for over 10,000 new homes through regeneration across London's boroughs.

Echoed the call for minimum repair standards, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in regeneration projects. Cited successful examples from Somerset and Kingston upon Thames where regeneration led to an increase in affordable homes with proper infrastructure support.

Mr Shannon highlighted the issues facing social housing estates in Northern Ireland, focusing on ageing infrastructure and the need for community involvement. He emphasised that estate regeneration must consider the needs of long-term residents and local communities, advocating for a holistic approach to renewal that includes improving lighting, playgrounds, community hubs, and green spaces. Mr Shannon also stressed the importance of UK-wide funding to address the multi-billion-pound maintenance deficit faced by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Mr. Shannon interjected to say that the government is playing catch-up in terms of housing delivery and estate regeneration.

In Dunscroft, local people want sustained investment in their estates rather than quick fixes. They seek better-quality housing, safer streets, improved green spaces, and community facilities that bring residents together. The Pride in Place funding is needed for long-term commitment to tackle neglected areas and support local initiatives, ensuring communities like Dunscroft receive the necessary investment to restore confidence and pride.
