Key Requests to Government:

I am asking for urgent intervention to protect workers from unscrupulous practices, especially those being exploited during this challenging period. We need legislative frameworks that prevent companies from drawing up new contracts or job descriptions in a way that is unfair to employees.

Opened the debate
I am concerned about the high number of redundancy claims in Strangford despite support schemes. There were almost 2,700 actual claimants for unemployment benefits, which is double the number from March this year. Young people aged 18-24 are particularly affected with a significant increase in claimants. I also highlighted issues faced by airline staff who have been forced to accept altered terms and conditions or face redundancy.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
