Key Requests to Government:

I ask the government to provide further support for the creative and events sectors to bridge them through winter and prevent avoidable unemployment. The museums sector is also struggling with only 38% open last week and facing closures during winter due to safety concerns.

Opened the debate
I am concerned about the impact of insufficient government support on Glasgow's cultural and creative industries. This includes musicians, technicians, venue staff, production companies, and those in the events sector, among others, all part of a local ecosystem that is worth £11 billion to the UK economy. Constituents have expressed hurt over recent comments from Westminster regarding their livelihoods. Additionally, the Scottish Events Campus employs more than 200 people with additional staff for events, while exhibitions contribute over £11 billion to the economy but receive little support, risking job losses of around 114,000 in the sector.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
