Daniel Kawczynski raised concerns about shrewsbury town centre redevelopment in Westminster Hall. Response awaited from government.

Key Requests to Government:

I ask the Minister to arrange a meeting between Peter Freeman at Homes England and Shropshire Council officials to discuss redevelopment opportunities. I also request that the Minister seriously consider our bid for £20 million in levelling-up fund support to regenerate the town centre, which would boost economic prosperity and address funding shortages.

How the Debate Unfolded

Opened the debate
I am concerned about the lack of levelling-up fund investment in Shropshire compared to inner-city conurbations such as Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, and others. The council's attempt to secure £20 million for town centre redevelopment was unsuccessful, despite owning three major shopping centres in prime real estate. The value of these sites has decreased due to changing high street circumstances and online retail growth, raising concerns among the local electorate.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
