Opened the debate
I am concerned about the issue of plastics and waste management. The debate focuses on reducing plastic waste and transitioning to a circular economy, where all plastic waste is recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2025. Targets have been set for zero avoidable plastic waste by 2042 and reducing landfill waste to 10% by 2035. The Government has already implemented measures such as bans on microbeads, extended the carrier bag charge, restricted single-use plastics, and is consulting on further restrictions.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
