Opened the debate
Mr Philip Hollobone is concerned about the urgent need for redevelopment of Kettering General Hospital due to the rapidly growing local population and outdated infrastructure. He mentioned that the area expects an 84,000 increase in population over the next ten years, leading to a projected rise in A&E attendances by 30,000 cases annually within a decade. Additionally, 70% of the hospital's buildings are more than 30 years old and require significant maintenance with a backlog of £42 million.

Government Response

Neil O'Brien
Government Response
It is a pleasure to serve under the chairmanship. My hon. Friend the Member for Kettering has been a relentless champion for the redevelopment of Kettering General Hospital. The hospital trust has received £4.4 million and on October 14, we confirmed an additional £38.2 million for enabling works including the new energy centre and high voltage cable. A memorandum of understanding is being worked towards to enable swift access to funds. The collaborative approach with a central team aims to maximise benefits and value for money. Six hospitals are already in construction, and upgrades worth £1.7 billion have been carried out on over 70 hospitals. The programme will deliver state-of-the-art facilities to improve patient outcomes.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
