Opened the debate
Mountain rescue teams in England and Wales provide lifesaving services but receive no direct Government funding, relying on donations. In 2024, these teams responded to almost 4,000 call-outs, a 24% increase from 2019, with over 3,000 volunteers donating more than 167,000 hours of their time. The current situation is unsustainable and poses risks to volunteer wellbeing.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
