Opened the debate
I am concerned about the lack of rail services in Washington since 1992, which has led to disconnection from essential services. The area was built as a new town with a vision for prosperity but lost good public services due to industrial decline and policy changes. Now, 40% of households in left-behind neighbourhoods have no car; the average is 26%. With major cuts to bus services due to unwinding covid-19 funding, I worry about residents being stranded without access to essential services.

About Westminster Hall Debates

Westminster Hall debates are a chance for MPs to raise important issues affecting their constituents and get a response from a government minister. Unlike Prime Minister's Questions, these debates are more in-depth and collaborative. The MP who secured the debate speaks first, other MPs can contribute, and a minister responds with the government's position.
