The MP welcomes the defection of a councillor f [1D [K from Reform to the Labour party and questions the trustworthiness of Reform [6D [K Reform in protecting social cohesion.
Will my right hon. Friend join me in welcoming Lancas [6D [K Lancashire county councillor Nigel Swales from my constituency to the Labou [5D [K Labour party? Councillor Swales has defected to Labour from Reform because [K he knows Reform will not deliver, and we saw at its party conference last w [1D [K week men literally beating young women on the conference floor and spokespe [8D [K spokespeople stirring up hatred. Does the Minister agree that Reform cannot [6D [K cannot be trusted to protect social cohesion?
I welcome the growing number of people who are recognis [8D [K recognising that Reform simply does not have the answers to the challenges [K facing our country and are inspired by this Labour Government's message of [K hope and optimism. There can be no place for violence or intimidation of wo [2D [K women, whether on the Reform conference floor or anywhere else. I say to th [2D [K the House that this is not a laughing matter, and those in Reform who have [K sought in recent days to make light of such serious scenes should reflect v [1D [K very seriously on why they think it is appropriate, at one level, to say th [2D [K that violence against women is unacceptable—I agree—but then to allow it to [2D [K to take place at their own conference.

The MP raises concerns about a surge in inciden [7D [K incidents of anti-Muslim attacks and fears of a catastrophic collapse in co [2D [K community cohesion.
In June, an individual went on an anti-Muslim rampage [7D [K rampage at sites in Edinburgh, and since then we have seen a surge in incid [5D [K incidents, such as individuals using Nazi salutes at protests. When I spoke [5D [K spoke to the representatives of one of the mosques affected by the incident [8D [K incidents, they said they fear there has been a catastrophic collapse in co [2D [K community cohesion in parts of the country. What are the Government doing o [1D [K on community cohesion? Does she agree that this is not a local problem just [4D [K just for local authorities or regional authorities to deal with, and that w [1D [K we must deal with it on a national scale?
The hon. Lady is right: we must tackle prejudice, racis [5D [K racism and intolerance in all its forms. I know that many of our Muslim com [3D [K communities have experienced unacceptable hatred and intimidation simply be [2D [K because they wish to go about their lives practising their religion and bel [3D [K belief, as is at the cornerstone of everything that we as a nation should b [1D [K believe—the ability to worship, to practice your religion and to express th [2D [K those views peacefully. Whatever form that racism takes, we will challenge [K it. It is why we as a Government have been very clear that tackling anti-Mu [7D [K anti-Muslim hostility is essential, alongside tackling the appalling antise [6D [K antisemitism we have also seen, and ensuring that all our communities are v [1D [K vibrant, cohesive places in keeping with the best of our traditions.
