Context
Independent analysis suggests that Army numbers could fall to 65,000 by the end of this Parliament.
What recent assessment has been made of trends in the number of armed forces personnel? Instead of giving more warm words, can you tell us what specific steps are being taken to avoid a decline to 65,000?
We remain committed to maintaining the overall size of the armed forces. Recruitment is at just under 100% of our year-long target, with more people looking to join than since 2010. There are no plans to reduce the number of armed forces personnel.
