Context
GPs are facing difficulties in obtaining necessary tests before visiting care homes.
What recent assessment has been made of the availability of Covid-19 testing for GPs required to attend care homes? I spoke with GPs in Cambridge last week who informed me about the difficulty they face in getting tested prior to entering care homes, and one GP had to pretend she was a care worker just to get a test.
GPs with symptoms can be tested through the self-referral portal. We are launching pilots in Northamptonshire, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire to provide regular Covid-19 testing for professionals who visit care homes regularly and provide services within 1 metre of residents.
Assessment & feedback
The lack of immediate solutions prior to the pilot programmes was not addressed.
