Context
Discussions are ongoing with twenty-one countries to roll over existing trade agreements post-Brexit. Some of these countries have poor human rights records.
Does the Minister acknowledge that negotiations are taking place with several countries that have poor human rights records and will he ensure that human rights clauses are included in any final deals, especially considering the distraction caused by coronavirus?
The hon. Lady is referring to EU agreements; if we had remained, those same countries would still have been our partners. The UK will remain a strong voice for human rights and continue encouraging states to uphold international human rights obligations.
Assessment & feedback
The Minister did not directly address the inclusion of specific human rights clauses in ongoing negotiations or future agreements.
