Context
The Liberal Democrat MP inquired about extending the job retention scheme until June 2021 to give businesses time to plan and recover, especially considering the end of the transition period.
I welcome the extension of the job retention scheme until March but request an extension to June 2021. This would provide sufficient planning time for businesses and support those who have been excluded from all help.
We need to be serious about this; each extension request seems odd. Extending it indefinitely doesn't solve issues, and hundreds of thousands of jobs have been saved due to current flexibility.
Assessment & feedback
The specific ask for extending the scheme until June 2021 was not addressed
