Context
The Food Foundation reports that food insecurity is affecting millions with insufficient nutritious daily intake, and the national food strategy was shelved due to coronavirus.
What plans does the Minister have for introducing more funds to support those most in need, preventing reliance on food banks and hunger during a second wave of COVID-19 or bad/no deal Brexit?
In addition to £6.5 billion welfare changes, we have allocated over £16 million in food redistribution charity funds and a £3.5 million grant fund offering up to £100,000 grants. We also announced the local welfare assistance fund worth £63 million and the free school meals voucher scheme. To better understand food insecurity, extra questions are being added to the family resources survey.
