Q4 Partial Answer
Bambos Charalambous Lab
Wythenshawe and Sale East
Context
The question concerns the proposed removal of free public transport for children and teenagers in London by the government.
Charalambous asks if there will be a public consultation before implementing changes to the travel arrangements for 16 to 18-year-olds attending college, given the opposition from various sectors and a petition with at least 160,000 signatures.
Shapps argues that the Mayor's failure to collect sufficient revenue over previous years means changes are necessary. He emphasizes that people outside London should not subsidize transport costs and does not explicitly confirm a public consultation will take place.
Assessment & feedback
The Secretary of State did not directly answer whether there would be a public consultation before the policy change is implemented.
