Birmingham airport in Saqib Bhatti's constituency aims for net zero carbon emissions by 2033, contributing to regional economic recovery post-COVID-19.
I thank the Secretary of State for his earlier response. He will be aware that Birmingham airport in my constituency is key to the region's economic recovery following the impact of COVID-19. Will he confirm that decarbonising the aviation sector presents both an economic and a green opportunity? Also, will he join me in commending Birmingham airport on its commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2033?
My hon. Friend is right, and I absolutely join him in commending Birmingham airport's commitment to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2033. This joins other airports like Bristol which have already achieved this goal, as well as Farnborough and several larger airports. The industry has embraced the Jet Zero Council's initiative with enthusiasm, signing pledges to achieve zero carbon.
