Perkins highlights issues with current test availability and result turnaround times.
Alongside the need to increase capacity, there is a real need to make sure that what is already there is working properly. In Chesterfield, many people have been waiting four or five days for test results back and some have been directed far away from their local centre despite having one nearby.
We are constantly working to improve the system. NHS test and trace reaches 84% of contacts given, and we direct people to nearby testing centres during high demand. We respond by adding more tests where needed, especially in higher-risk areas like Chesterfield.
