Context
The Court of Appeal had recently made a judgment on the review, and there was a report by the New Economic Foundation titled “Baggage Claim” that questioned the value of Heathrow expansion.
Whether he has made an estimate of the time it will take to review the Airports National Policy Statement. My hon. Friend agrees that, apart from digesting the complex implications of the judgment, she could also consider the report by the New Economic Foundation which challenges many assumptions about Heathrow expansion and suggests regional airport growth for economic benefits.
The judgment by the Court of Appeal is complex, and the Government needs time to consider it carefully. We are considering the report by the New Economic Foundation as well. The next steps will be outlined in due course. On regional connectivity, we are committed to airport expansion that aligns with our environmental obligations and supports levelling up.
