What discussions have you had with representatives of the AU member states to help support the covid-19 response in Africa? The pandemic has revealed vulnerabilities not only in health systems but also economies. The AU warns that nearly 20 million jobs may be lost, highlighting the critical role of the African Development Bank and private sector recovery efforts.
I was delighted that Moussa Faki, chair of the AU Commission, spoke at the Gavi summit. I would have spoken this week with all eight AU commissioners. Our strategic partnership with the AU is revising a joint plan on covid-19 implications and aims to hold a virtual high-level dialogue later this month. The private sector and ADB play critical roles in protecting livelihoods alongside supply chains, especially through economic recovery efforts.
