Context
The question pertains to the Government's response regarding a disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on ethnic minorities. It follows an announcement by Public Health England to conduct a review.
If the Government will convene a cross-party taskforce to oversee the BAME covid-19 review announced on 17 April 2020 and monitor the implementation of actions arising from that review. I welcome the review PHE is undertaking, but there are things we can do now to better understand the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on the BAME community; one would be adding a question on ethnicity in the NHS coronavirus symptom checker.
I thank the hon. Lady for her letter on this issue in April; the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is aware of it, and I am sure she will receive a response from him in due course. Public Health England conducts an independent review, trusted to collect information appropriately as they see fit.
