Context
The question addresses concerns over the environmental sustainability of new housing and the potential deregulation of planning systems.
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government what steps he is taking to ensure that new housing is of the highest standard of environmental sustainability. Can I urge the Secretary of State to look at a letter from 18 conservation groups worried about potential deregulation of planning systems? Does he agree on sustainably built homes in sustainable locations? Will he talk to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs?
Our proposed future homes standard will ensure all new homes from 2025 result in at least 75% lower carbon emissions. We announced £8.8 billion for infrastructure projects including a green investment package to support jobs and reduce emissions. The planning reforms coming later this month or early August will not roll back environmental commitments, ensuring homes are fit for the future without needing retrofits.
