Context
The MP is concerned about the accessibility of healthy and sustainable food, particularly during a recession.
What steps he is taking to ensure the accessibility of (a) healthy and (b) sustainable food. Local welfare provision can be a lifeline for families on the brink of food poverty, with £63 million allocated in July 2020 as emergency support which will expire in October.
We have put in place a number of interventions to help people struggling with food affordability, particularly in lockdown and its aftermath. We continue to keep all these policies under review. We have the free school meals voucher system that ran over the summer, and there are other measures we have been working on with local authorities.
