Context
Edward Leigh has campaigned for a direct train service between Cleethorpes and London through Market Rasen. He argues that this project is beneficial for a catchment area of 100,000 people.
He apologises to the Minister for repeatedly raising this issue but insists on its importance. LNER has offered to provide the direct train service for just £1 million compared to the £80 billion being spent on HS2. He promises that if the minister grants this request, they will make him an honorary yellowbelly.
The Minister acknowledges Edward Leigh's campaign and the efforts by LNER to assess how the service could operate. He states that before a final decision can be made, a business case from LNER needs review. Due to coronavirus delays, surveys will take place later in the summer, and he commits to writing to Edward Leigh about the schedule for this work.
