The question stems from ongoing efforts to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment, with specific focus on actions requested by local primary schools.
What steps he is taking to reduce plastic pollution. Earlier this year, I was written to by year 6 pupils in the Chevening and St Lawrence primary schools. They were asking me to protect the environment, and reducing plastic pollution was top of their list. I am sure they will have been reassured by the Secretary of State's answer, but can he reassure them further that we will act to stop this attack on our environment and that they will see change in their lifetime?
The Government have banned microbeads, single-use straws, stirrers, cotton buds, and increased the charge for single-use plastic bags to 10p. We seek powers in the Environment Bill to require charges for other single-use plastics and improve recycling consistency. In my constituency, schools like Lanner, Troon, Treleigh, Rosemellin, and Roskear have contacted me about plastic pollution.
Assessment & feedback
Did not provide specific new assurances or actions beyond existing measures.
