What steps his Department is taking to recruit and retain armed forces personnel. Can the Minister assure me that his Department intends to keep the present number of Marines, not decrease it, bearing in mind that they are such a vital force to protect this country?
I can confirm that we have no plans to reduce the size of the Royal Marines. They are an extremely important part of this country's defence, contributing 47% of individuals who go off to our UK special forces group. The future commando force concept is very exciting and there are no plans to reduce the number of Royal Marines at this stage.
