Context
British Airways is planning significant job cuts and contract changes during the pandemic.
A constituent of mine who has worked for British Airways for over 20 years faces losing their job or being rehired on worse pay and terms. BA needs to halt its plans and the Government have not yet brought forward an aviation sector deal as promised three months ago. When will an aviation deal be announced, and will it extend the job retention scheme for aviation workers and include conditions to protect jobs, firms, and pay?
The Chancellor has announced an unprecedented package to support businesses including the aviation sector. The Government stand ready to hear from businesses needing further support. My sympathies are with those affected by redundancies or changes in terms and conditions. It is right that employees should be treated fairly, and I hope BA and unions continue working together towards a proper resolution.
