Context
The NHS saw an increase of 1 million attendances at A&E in 2019 compared to 2018, with significant variations among trusts. Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust experienced major delays during winter.
Sam Tarry mentioned that his trust had a high percentage of ambulance handover delays this winter, averaging 38% over at least 30 minutes compared to the national average of 14%. He asked how the Government could explain these poor performance metrics despite fewer arrivals and highlighted the significant number of additional handover delays.
