Context
Annual CAP spending of £3.4 billion has not significantly increased farm productivity since the 1990s.
Despite annual CAP spending of £3.4 billion, the productivity growth rate in UK farms has remained stagnant since the 1990s. In contrast, sectors like egg production saw a 3.8% increase in productivity alone in 2019. Will removing the CAP and increasing competition drive productivity growth throughout farming?
I absolutely agree that moving away from the common agricultural policy provides the opportunity for a more prosperous, competitive and self-reliant industry. We will support UK farms to focus on their business modelling and to improve efficiency, which may well in turn reduce their environmental footprint.
