Context
Since 2012, school exclusions have increased by 70%, and Sarah Jones argues this is not due to a rise in students' misbehaviour. She highlights the societal impact of such increases and references a debate on the issue.
What steps are being taken to tackle the increase in school exclusions? I would like to discuss these issues further with the Minister, Edward Timpson, who has reviewed some of these issues.
I am very happy to host a meeting. Permanent exclusions are at 0.1%, which is lower than in 2006-07, but I recognise the complexity of issues such as absence from school being linked to knife crime and other problems.
