Context
The UK government is transitioning from free movement towards a new points-based immigration system, following the passage of related legislation. The debate involves ensuring that employers prioritize domestic workforce training and development.
The introduction of the points-based immigration system is a pledge to the British people. Does my hon. Friend agree that now is also the time for employers to create working conditions attractive to our home-grown population?
I absolutely agree. Under our new points-based immigration system, the UK will continue to be open to the best talent from around the world. But my hon. Friend is right: employers should always be looking to recruit from the domestic workforce first and ensure that they offer terms and conditions, and career development opportunities, that make this possible.
