Context
The question arises from the need to improve recycling performance in England.
What steps are being taken by the Government to enhance recycling rates? The current situation is unsatisfactory and requires immediate action.
We are implementing reforms in the waste sector designed to increase the amount of material recycled. These include consistency in household and business waste collection, extended producer responsibility for packaging, and a deposit return scheme for drinks containers. The goal is to recycle 70% of packaging by 2030 and 65% of municipal waste by 2035.

Context
Wales is noted for its high recycling rates, particularly in Newport where the local council and Wastesavers have achieved notable success. The reuse centre managed by Ruth Jones's constituency is a nominee for civic amenity centre of the year.
Does the Minister agree that the Government can learn much from Wales and Newport, given their exceptional recycling achievements?
I thank the hon. Lady for her question. If we can learn lessons from anyone, I am never too proud. The challenges are different in every place, but we have set targets to increase our recycling rates here in the UK and Wales will be joining us in the deposit return scheme.
Assessment & feedback
