Context
The MP is concerned about the accessibility of home ownership for constituents in North West Durham. The First Homes scheme, providing homes discounted by at least 30% to first-time buyers, has recently been launched.
I am in my first home—I moved in only in May—and I want to see more of my constituents in exactly the same position. Will the Secretary of State outline what support North West Durham constituents can access through the new schemes—particularly the First Homes scheme—and when they will be fully available and rolled out throughout the country?
I am pleased to tell my hon. Friend that the Government are committed to making sure that young people have opportunities to live and work in their local community, both in North West Durham and throughout the country. I encourage constituents to go to the Government's ownyourhome.gov.uk website to check out available schemes. Later this month we will launch the first set of first homes in County Durham.
Assessment & feedback
The answer did not provide a specific timeline or detailed rollout plan for North West Durham.

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, where 72 people lost their lives. Hundreds of thousands of people are still living in buildings with unsafe conditions.
Today, on the fourth anniversary of the terrible fire at Grenfell, we first and foremost remember the 72 people who lost their lives. Our thoughts are with the bereaved, as well as the survivors of that terrible night. The Grenfell community has steadfastly campaigned for justice and change but it has come too slowly. Many first-time buyers have watched their dream of home ownership become a living nightmare in unsellable homes. I welcome the building safety fund, but funds alone are not enough due to slow progress. Will the Secretary of State commit that all buildings will be made safe by this time next year and free homeowners from costs and anxieties?
I join the hon. Lady in giving my sympathies to the survivors and bereaved of Grenfell Tower. We are providing £5.1 billion for unsafe material removal from homes as quickly as possible. 95% of high-rise flats with similar cladding have either been remediated or have workers on site, with 65% completed. The work will be finished by the end of this year. We are also working to ensure lenders, insurers and surveyors play their part.
Assessment & feedback
The answer did not provide a specific commitment for remediation completion by next year's anniversary.
