People across the north-east have been benefiting from a £2.50 bus fare for a single journey funded by the Labour Government and Kim McGuinness. With that fare, there have been over 100 million bus journeys and an increase in bus patronage. To build on this success, we need national funding to continue beyond March 2027. Will the Minister confirm the £3 national cap on bus fares will remain?
We have extended the £3 bus fare cap in England until March 2027. We are evaluating its impact, including on passengers and value for money, to inform future decisions. Alongside this, we are giving every child free bus travel in August, building on the Kids Go Free scheme.
