Question
What recent assessment has been made of the potential impact of the youth investment fund on youth facilities and services? The Walney Community Trust in Simon Fell's constituency helps young people from deprived areas but was turned down for funding because of its hall's postcode. Is there any way to look at this specific case?
Answer from Lucy Frazer
The youth investment fund will build or refurbish up to 300 youth facilities, supporting 45,000 additional young people each year. The first tranche of awards with £90 million was announced in March for 43 youth centres. The fund's eligibility criteria ranked areas by need and provision levels. My right hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has offered to meet my hon. Friend to discuss this case further. Walney will be eligible for a number of different Government-funded programmes including the national youth guarantee.
