Questions & Answers

Q1 Bill Esterson Lab Sefton Central
NHS
Context

The MP is concerned about the lack of funding for a new primary health care facility in East Sefton despite previous commitments.

Question

Whether he plans to provide funding for a new primary health care facility in East Sefton. The allocations are made by Government to integrated care boards, but with competing priorities, there is a need for additional funding specifically for the proposed health centre.

Answer from Neil O'Brien

The Government are providing record levels of capital to the NHS with more than £24 billion allocated between 2022-23 and 2024-25, over £12 billion of which is allocated to integrated care boards themselves to invest in local priorities. The hon. Member has been campaigning for this for several years, and his local ICB will be seized of that and the strong arguments for it. In the most recent primary care recovery plan, we have set further steps to increase investment from developer contributions.

Partly answered

Not addressed: Specific funding commitment for East Sefton health centre was not provided

Q2 Bill Esterson Lab Sefton Central
Context

The MP mentions that Sefton Council has secured over £1 million from developers for a new health centre but the funding commitment by the government is lacking.

Question

Sefton Council has secured more than £1 million from developers for a new health centre in East Sefton. The Health Secretary's recent predecessors agreed with me that a new health centre there is a priority. Will he and his colleagues match this priority, support the commitment by Sefton Council and award additional funding to build the health centre?

Answer from Neil O'Brien

The hon. Member has been campaigning doggedly for this for several years, and I am sure that his local ICB will be strongly seized of that and the strong arguments for it. He raised the issue of developer contributions. In the most recent primary care recovery plan, we have set further steps to increase investment from developer contributions.
