Context

Swansea East-based charity Faith in Families supports hundreds of households struggling with basic living costs. The Everyone Deserves a Christmas campaign seeks funds to provide festive hampers for these families.

Question

Swansea East-based charity Faith in Families supports 500 households a week who are struggling to pay for food, energy and living costs. Currently, it raises money to provide vouchers for toys so that children will be able to open a gift on Christmas morning. The Everyone Deserves a Christmas campaign is desperately trying to raise funds to provide festive hampers for those families. Community organisations are doing their bit to ensure that nobody goes without this Christmas. What will the Government do?

Answer from David Davies

The hon. Lady is commended for her support of the hamper campaign. My office has possibly sent out hampers as part of the same campaign she championed. The Government have done everything possible to target help at the least well-off, including inflation-linked increases to pensions and benefits, additional living wage measures, £900 payments to those on benefits, £300 to pensioners, and £150 to households with disabilities.
