Context

Residents in Carmarthenshire are experiencing significant increases in heating costs due to being off the gas grid. The alternative fuel payment of £100 is perceived as inadequate compared to the cap for those on the gas grid.

Question

Will you write to Welsh MPs outlining how the British Government calculates the Alternative Fuel Payment rate?

Answer from David Davies

I am sure that my Treasury colleagues will be able to help with that, but there is one thing that the hon. Gentleman could do as well if he wants to support people on the cost of living challenges in Wales: persuade his Plaid Cymru colleagues to vote against Welsh Labour's proposals to revalue council tax bands in Wales, which are going to be catastrophic for the finances of hundreds of thousands of people across Wales.

Not addressed: The specific request for a written explanation on AFP methodology was not addressed.
